Two Senior Golf Swing Tips

Are you retired and feel like you no longer have the flexibility to produce the correct golf swing?

Are you looking for ways to increase your range of motion?

Charles wrote into us and asked a similar question:

Hi Sean, my name is Charles. I am retired and I just don’t have the same flexibility – particularly in my hips – that I used to have. Is there any way for me to improve my range of motion?

There are a couple of things I look for when assessing range of motion in the hip area – especially for senior golfers.

First, a common problem I see it that their stance is too wide. I find that when I ask my students to narrow their stance, this helps to increase the range of motion.

The second thing that I look for is foot positioning. If you could imagine a clock face – I want the left foot pointing to eleven o’clock and the right foot pointing to one o’clock.

A common problem I see with right-handed golfers is that the right foot is “toed in” too much. This means that the right foot is pointing towards twelve – or even eleven o’clock – and this restricts their ability to turn their hip on their backswing.

So, make sure that your left foot is pointing to eleven and your right foot is pointing to one; doing this will help open up the range of motion in your hips a little bit.

If you are someone who is especially tight, especially with the left hip (for a right-handed golfer), and you are having difficulty rotating into your left side and feel like you are not getting through your shot, I want you to consider opening up your left foot and pointing it to ten o’clock. This will allow your left hip to turn through the shot and achieve more rotation.

To finish off, there is a drill I would like you to practice to help open up the left hip and increase the range of motion.

First, I want you to open the left foot and point it towards ten o’clock. Then I want you to make some half swings initially, because this will feel different to you. If you immediately start to swing at your normal speed, it may cause you to lose balance.

So, once you’ve hit a few shots making some slow swings, you’ll then be able to gradually speed it up and make the swings longer. Go ahead and take a little narrower stance, make sure the right foot is pointing towards one o’clock and the left foot is pointing towards ten. You will find it a lot easier to turn and rotate during your golf swing.

Michael Breed demonstrates three drills to stop your swing from coming over the top.

Keeping Tempo With Golf Swing

help with golf Comments Off on Keeping Tempo With Golf Swing

A golfer’s swing is important to how successful they are going to be in the game. If their swing is not any good, their game won’t be either. Having a good golf swing is the number one important thing in the game of golf.

A big problem that golfer’s face is swinging too hard. They swing quickly and with a lot of power behind their swings. This brings down their accuracy level because they have less control of where the golf ball goes.

Golfers need to have a lot of control over their body. They need to be in control of their swing if they want it to be accurate. Golfers who do not have control can have a hard time knowing when they are over-swinging.

Golfers swing quickly because it is easy to do. They also do it because normally the more speed involved, the better the distance. While this is true, there is a better way to achieve this with golf.

You don’t need to swing quickly to get the best results. The difference between seasoned golfers and beginning ones is that seasoned golfers don’t swing as fast, nor as strong, the entire time. They wait to hold off on the fast portion of their swing until the end when the ball and club collide.

Training will improve your golf swing. Train yourself not to swing too hard or too fast in the beginning. It is important to start off at a slower pace and then move up the speed as you go.

This type of technique allows your golf swing to be smooth. Your hands need to be aligned properly so you can stay on target. This allows you to stay in control the entire swing and help you get the ball where you need it to go.

With practice and training you will notice improvement with your game. A golfer needs to have good tempo with his swings to make them look effortless. The stroke will eventually be effortless as well.

The Automatic Swing Trainer is a swing trainer that will revolutionize your golf game. Our golf trainer is guaranteed to improve driving distance, lower scores, and help you control your golf game.

Golf Instruction – How To Get That Slow Easy Swing

Golf Instruction

In this golf lesson I show you how to get that smooth, powerful swing everyone marvels at. You know the one. It’s that swing that looks like the person is barely swinging yet they hit it a mile and they seem to hit every fairway. Although it looks simple it does take a little effort and the right instruction.

Most people are confused when they see someone with this type of golf swing. They just can’t figure out how they do it no matter how much golf instruction they have taken. If this is you, what you are missing is that the body is telling the arms how fast to come down.

In a good golf swing the body only rotates at approximately 2.5 mph. If the body doesn’t turn very fast and it’s telling the arms how fast to come down the overall swing would appear slow and effortless.

The power is generated through the club hinging and re-hinging in the wrists. The looser the wrists, the more clubhead speed that is generated. If you’ve ever had some golf instruction or lessons in the past you will have worked on your wrist hinge but in doing so you were most likely trying to hit the ball solely with your arms. This hitting tightens your wrists and actually slows the club down.

To get this easy look you need this looseness in the wrists and you get it by not trying to hit anything at all. In other words, you’re just letting the arms go along for the ride.
